2009 Racing Announcements

June 27 2009

Hitech Racing had a great showing at Plymouth Speedway, a small 3/8 mile track. Hitech Racing decided to take our 305 sprint car engine and go race with Hoosier Outlaw Series, which is all 410 sprint cars. Even though we were 300 horsepower below all the other cars Tom was very competitive with everyone.  The crew was able to get a very good car setup, and allowed Tom to qualify 9th out of 19 cars. Tom continued on to the heat race, and was a little tight for the race, but was able to grab a 3rd place finish. Dave Tolbert, crew chief, made some chassis changes for the 40 lap feature event. Tom started in 9th spot and was able to move up towards the front passing high and low on the racetrack. The car began to get a little tight half way through the race, but Tom was able to adjust his line to move towards the front. Tom was running in 8th position with 11 laps to go. When Tom was going to pass for 7th position, a lapped car got loose in front and Tom enclosed so fast on the car, spun to avoid hitting the car. Tom was able to get a strong 12th place finish. Hitech Racing and the entire crew were very pleased with a great night, running our 305 and competing with the 410’s. We are looking forward to the next race!

Next race is July 11th, New Paris Speedway Indiana.

The race at Columbus Speedway turned out to be a great night for Hitech Racing. Weather was perfect for racing conditions, and the team was anxious to see what the new Gressman Powersports engine could do for the night. Tom and the crew were able to dial in the chassis setup, to qualify 3rd out of the 18 cars in the field. Tom started in fourth position in the heat race, and was able to maneuver his way through the field to get a strong 2nd place finish. During the heat race the car was a little loose, so the crew made slight changes to prepare for the 30 lap feature race. Tom started in 9th position in the feature race, and was up to 7th position three laps into the race. The car was excellent on short green flag runs, but as the race went on the car kept getting looser. Tom was able to pull off a good 5th place finish in the feature race. Hitech racing is looking forward for the next race!

Columbus Motor Speedway, Ohio

August 2, 2008

The race day started off great with the sun shining and many fans, including quarter midget friends, in the stands to support Tom. We had a good night.  We rolled the car out of the trailer, got completely setup, and the car ran great all night long. Tom qualified 6th, placing him on the pole of the heat race. The eight-lap heat race was very exciting. Tom jumped out front leading the race on lap two and continued to pull away from the field with an 8 car lead over 2nd place. Tom flew winning the heat race.  For the 25-lap feature race, Tom started on the outside front row and took the lead on lap one. Tom led the race for 12 laps when the fast time qualifier took the lead after a restart. Tom’s car got looser and looser as the race went on. Tom hung in there and was able to hold on to a strong 3rd place finish. The crew did a great job all night. With a strong 3rd place finish HiTech Racing looks forward to go racing at Flat Rock Speedway in Michigan.

Flat Rock Speedway, Michigan

August 9, 2008

It has been 12 years since a sprint car has graced their presence at Flat Rock Speedway.  This was going to be a new adventure and experience for Tom and his team.  Flat Rock Speedway is a tight ¼ mile racetrack. The car was handling very nicely during hot laps and Tom was very fast passing cars at every corner. The team was very excited for racing to begin.  Tom qualified in the top 10 and while waiting for the heat race, mother nature had another plan.  The race was cancelled due to a down pour. Tom and his team look forward to coming back and tackling this track.

Anderson Speedway, Indiana

August 16, 2008

The entire team was very excited to race at the famous Anderson Speedway in Indiana. This was the first time for Tom and his crew to race at this track and with the HOSS sprint series. The HOSS series consists of 410 asphalt sprint cars that have 850 hp.  We entered this race with our 305 asphalt sprint car with 500 hp.  Because the track is a smaller track, we wanted to see how competitive we could be with the 410’s.  The 410s were really quick on the straightaway and could not go full power around the corner giving my 305 the opportunity to catch up and pass a bit.  Qualifying in the middle of the pack (24 cars), we were placed on the pole of the first heat race. Tom put the pedal to the floor and got a great start and jump on the 410s.  While leading, the car broke a power steering stud and cam stud and had to pull off the track.  The crew scrambled to put on a back-up pump, but was unable to fix the car in time to take the track. This was the first time in 3 years of racing the sprint car that Tom did not make the feature race.  Watching the feature from the stands, Tom said, “Wow, I’ve never seen the race before.”   The HOSS series puts on a very professional event and we look forward racing with this organization again.

Angola Speedway, Indiana

August 31, 2008

A decision was made to make another attempt to race with the 410s with our 305.  Another new track, another new experience.  Angola Speedway is a 3/8 mile track, again where we thought we might be able to be competitive.  The first practice round went well, however, the engine was not running as smoothly as it should.  The crew found an ignition problem. The crew worked diligently to fix the problem.  The car was better, but not at full speed.  We finished 8th in the heat race and continued to work on the fuel/air mixture. Because there were 32 cars, we were placed in a B Main.  Although we did not finish in the top 4 of the B Main in order to go onto the A Main, Tom put on a show for the spectators showing that a 305 can be competitive with the 410s by passing 410s.  If the car was set up and running normally, it would be great to see just how competitive a 305 can be with the 410s.  We’ll keep trying.
